1. Download and Install Google’s Backup and Sync Software
To start, you need to download Google’s Backup and Sync software. Visit the Google Drive website, find the ‘Downloads’ section, and select ‘Download Drive for desktop’.
Download and install it on your computer.
2. Open the Backup and Sync App and Sign in to Your Google Account
After installing, open the Backup and Sync app. It will ask you to sign in. Use your Google credentials to log in, ensuring that this is the account where you want your files stored.
3. Choose the Folder on Your Computer That You Want to Back Up
In the app, you will find options to choose which folders from your computer to back up. In our example, we will select the ‘Documents’ folder by ticking the corresponding box. After selecting the folder, click ‘Next’ to proceed.
4. Customize Backup Preferences Based on Your Needs
You can choose which types of files to back up, such as photos and videos, or specific folders. In our example, we will skip this step and not select any additional file types.
5. Review and Confirm Your Backup Selections
The next screen will show the folders that will sync to Google Drive and back up to Google Photos. Ensure your selections are correct. If everything looks good, click ‘Next’ to finish the process.
6. Visit Your Google Drive on the Website to Confirm Backup
After the setup is complete, visit the Google Drive website and sign in to your account. Navigate to the side menu to see if your backup has been successful.
In our example, we will now see that our ‘Documents’ folder is present under our ‘Computers’ section in Google Drive.
