In this article, we will show you how to remove duplicate photos from Google Drive. Simply follow the steps below.
Remove Duplicates in Google Drive
To remove duplicate photos from Google Drive, follow the steps below.
1. Open the Folder Containing Your Photos
Find the folder where your photos are stored. For example, if you have a folder named “Vacation 2023,” click on it to view the photos from that trip. This will display all the photos contained within.
2. Select All Photos in the Folder
To select all photos, click on the first photo in the folder. Then, hold down the Shift key and click on the last photo. This action will highlight all the photos between the first and the last. For instance, if you have 7 photos in the “Vacation 2023” folder, this method will select all 7 photos at once.
3. Sort Photos by Name
In the folder, sort the photos by name. This will group duplicate photos together, making them easier to find. To do this, click on the “Name” column header. For example, if you have multiple copies of “Beach.jpg,” they will now appear next to each other.
4. Manually Identify Duplicate Photos
Scroll through the sorted list of photos and look for duplicates. Duplicate photos will have the same name and often similar thumbnails. For instance, if you see multiple files named “Beach.jpg,” these are likely duplicates.
5. Select Duplicate Photos
Click on each duplicate photo while holding down the Ctrl key (Cmd key on Mac) to select them. Be careful to only select the duplicates. In this example, if you have three copies of “Beach.jpg,” select two of them to delete.
6. Delete the Duplicate Photos
After selecting the duplicate photos, press the Delete key or right-click and choose “Move to Trash” from the context menu. This will move the selected photos to the Trash. For example, if you selected two out of three “Beach.jpg” photos, deleting them will leave you with only one copy.
7. Empty the Trash to Permanently Delete Duplicates
To permanently remove the duplicates, go to the Trash folder in Google Drive.
Then, click “Empty Trash” at the top right. This will permanently delete all items in the Trash, including the duplicate photos. In this case, this will remove the two “Beach.jpg” photos you deleted earlier.
